SUMMARY:Sinterklaas Welcome Parade Amsterdam
DESCRIPTION:Sinterklaas in Amsterdam\n\n\n\nOn Sunday 16 November 2025 Sinterklaas will arrive in Amsterdam. Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) is a truly Dutch tradition. It is the main character of the Sinterklaas feast that is celebrated in the Netherlands on 5 December. From 16 November to 5 December\, Sinterklaas will be in Amsterdam and you may run into him or his helpers. There will also be traditional Sinterklaas candy in the shops. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Sinterklaas Welcome Parade in AmsterdamSinterklaas in AmsterdamProgramme Sinterklaas parade Amsterdam 2025Route Sinterklaas parade Amsterdam 2025Water routeLand routeSinterklaas traditionsSinterklaas songsSpecial candyPopulair links\n\n\nSinterklaas in Amsterdam\n\n\n\n‘Sinterklaas’ (Saint Nicholas) is a typical Dutch character loved by children and adults. He is accompanied by his white horse and a team of helpers (Pieten). Their annual arrival and parade in Amsterdam in mid-November and the festivities leading up to Sinterklaas (poem & gift giving) on 5 December are a real happening. \n\n\n\nProgramme Sinterklaas parade Amsterdam 2025\n\n\n\nOn Sunday 16 November\, Sinterklaas and his Pieten will arrive by boat. Sinterklaas will sail into Amsterdam on the boat according to the Water Route below. Again this year\, some 300\,000 – 350\,000 visitors are expected to come on the water or along the route by road to welcome Sinterklaas. \n\n\n\nRoute Sinterklaas parade Amsterdam 2025\n\n\n\nThe parade consists of two parts: a water route where Sint enters Amsterdam and takes a tour of the city and a land route where Sint and the Pieten walk through the city accompanied by a grand procession. Check out the routes and corresponding times below. \n\n\n\nPlease note that times are guidelines and may vary slightly. It may therefore happen that Saint is a little earlier or later. Please take this into account when visiting the entry! \n\n\n\nWater route\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe parade will go via the Omval\, Berlagebrug\, Nieuwe Amstelbrug\, Hogesluis\, Amstelsluizen\, Walter Suskindbrug and Scharrebiersluis towards Scheepvaartmuseum\, where the Goedheigman will be received by Mayor Halsema and the children’s mayor. \n\n\n\n\n10.00 | Start\n\n\n\n10.15 | Omval (first observation)\n\n\n\n10.40 | Ceintuurbaan\n\n\n\n10.50 | Sarphatistraat\n\n\n\n11.15 | Amstel / Nieuwe Herengracht \n\n\n\n11.30 | Arrival at the Scheepvaartmuseum\n\n\n\n\nLand route\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter a short stop\, St Nicholas will continue his tour\, followed by a procession of musicians\, floats and his Pieten. The route will start from Waterlooplein and will pass through the Blauwe Brug\, Utrechtsestraat\, Frederiksplein\, Weteringcircuit\, Leidseplein and end on the steps of the Stadsschouwburg with a speech by Sinterklaas! \n\n\n\n\n13.00 | Stopera\n\n\n\n13.15 | Rembrandtplein\n\n\n\n13.20 | Utrechtsestraat\n\n\n\n13.35 | Freferiksplein\n\n\n\n13.55 | Weteringcircuit\n\n\n\n14.15 | Leidseplein (start program at 14.00)\n\n\n\n15.30 | End of program\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSinterklaas traditions\n\n\n\nSinterklaas is a truly Dutch festival that has been celebrated for a very long time. There are many traditions that belong to Sinterklaas. Children may put their shoe by the chimney and put an apple or a carrot in it for Sinterklaas’ horse. The next morning\, there is a present in the shoe. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSinterklaas songs\n\n\n\nChildren’s songs belong to the Sinterklaas celebration. There are many of them. On St. Nicholas Eve (5 December)\, families sing together in order to get St. Nicholas to come to their house to give presents. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial candy\n\n\n\nSweets are also part of the party. SUMMARY:Chinese New Year in Amsterdam
DESCRIPTION:Chinese New Year in Amsterdam\n\n\n\nCelebrate Chinese New Year in Amsterdam’s Chinatown. The Chinese New Year begins every year between 21 January and 20 February\, on the second new moon after the 21 December solstice. In 2026\, the Chinese year 4723\, The Year of the Horse\, begins. In 2026\, Chinese New Year starts on 17 February. This will be celebrated grandly in Amsterdam on 17 February. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Chinese New year in AmsterdamProgram Chinese New Year in AmsterdamChinese New YearParade with dragons and lionsChinatown Amsterdam\n\n\nProgram Chinese New Year in Amsterdam \n\n\n\nWe celebrate the start of the Year of the Horse on 17 February. Starting from the Buddhist Temple\, a procession is held through Chinatown with traditional lions and dragons\, to drive away evil spirits and bring good luck for the new year. Of course\, there will also be fireworks! \n\n\n\nChinese New Year\n\n\n\nThe Chinese New Year\, or Lunar New Year\, is the most important event in the Chinese calendar and is celebrated worldwide. On this day\, Chinese people gather with their families\, and rituals involving food\, sacrifices at temples and the colour red take centre stage. Superstitious people can indulge themselves during Chinese New Year: according to the Chinese\, you can eat your way to happiness. Thus\, yu sheng (raw fish salad) and fai-hai (seaweed) are on the menu\, both of which bring luck and prosperity. \n\n\n\nParade with dragons and lions\n\n\n\nOn New Year’s Day\, an impressive parade with dragons and lions is held on the Zeedijk\, the main artery of the district. These mighty animals are supposed to drive away the evil spirits. Around this street\, fireworks are set off and food stalls are organised in the open air. Music undoubtedly plays an important role\, with drums\, gongs and cymbals. \n\n\n\nChinatown Amsterdam\n\n\n\nMost activities take place near the Nieuwmarkt. This district is also known as the Chinatown of Amsterdam. You will find a real Buddhist temple here: the Fo Guang Shan He Hua. At this Chinese temple\, the annual Chinese New Year celebration takes place.
