It is the city’s most centrally located ice rink and one of the largest in the Netherlands\, drawing visitors from Amsterdam and abroad each winter season. \n\n\n\nThe rink is suitable for all skill levels — beginners can find their footing on the ice\, while experienced skaters can pick up speed on the open surface. For the youngest visitors\, ice gliders are available for children with a shoe size smaller than EU 28. These attach under their own shoes and provide balance on the ice. \n\n\n\nThe setting makes the rink unique: on one side you look out over the iconic I Amsterdam sign location\, on the other you have a direct view of the Rijksmuseum’s neo-Gothic facade. It is one of the few places in the world where you can skate in front of a UNESCO World Heritage-listed cityscape. \n\n\n\nTickets & Prices\n\n\n\nTo skate at the Museumplein ice rink\, you need an entry ticket. Skate rental is included in the ticket price. You can also bring your own skates (see rules below). \n\n\n\nOnline booking is strongly recommended — popular sessions on Friday evenings\, weekends and during the school holidays sell out in advance. \n\n\n\nAmsterdam Ice rink ticketsPrice+ Ice skating ticket (including skate rental)€ 16.00Combination ticket with Moco Museum+ Ice skating ticket (including skate rental)+ Moco MuseumCombi deal € 35.95€ 26.32\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ice rink\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ice rink + Moco\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpenings hours ice rink\n\n\n\nThe Museumplein Ice Rink is open every day from 24 October 2026 to 16 January 2027. \n\n\n\nDayIce rink hoursMonday12 pm – 9 pmTuesday12 pm – 9 pmWednesday12 pm – 9 pmThursday12 pm – 9 pmFriday10 am – 10 pmSaturday10 am – 10 pmSunday10 am – 9 pm\n\n\n\nChristmas holidays (19 December 2026 – 3 January 2027): open every day from 10:00 am. \n\n\n\n\n\nWinter restaurant ‘Bistro Het Wak’\n\n\n\nRestaurant Ice Rink Amsterdam\n\n\n\nRight next to the ice rink\, Bistro Het Wak serves warm drinks\, snacks and full meals — perfect for non-skaters or for warming up after a session on the ice. During the dark months\, (inter)national artists place their illuminated works on\, along and above the water\, turning one of Europe’s most beautiful historic city centres into a glowing canvas. \n\n\n\nThe 15th edition — running from Thursday 26 November 2026 to Sunday 17 January 2027 — is a milestone. To mark fifteen years of light art in the city\, the festival introduces a brand-new route through Amsterdam\, alongside free events and side programming along the way. Artists from the Netherlands and abroad were invited to respond to this anniversary\, creating works that reflect on the city\, its people\, and the role of light art in public space. \n\n\n\nThe light artworks are freely visible to everyone — no ticket needed to walk past them. For a curated experience with commentary on the artworks\, book a canal cruise\, guided bike tour\, or purchase the walking route map via the app. \n\n\n\nTickets for canal cruises and walk experiences go on sale 1 October 2026 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEdition 15 — 15 Years of Light Art in Amsterdam\n\n\n\nThe 2026/2027 edition marks fifteen years since Amsterdam Light Festival first lit up the canals. On this day\, Chinese people gather with their families\, and rituals involving food\, sacrifices at temples and the colour red take centre stage. Superstitious people can indulge themselves during Chinese New Year: according to the Chinese\, you can eat your way to happiness. Thus\, yu sheng (raw fish salad) and fai-hai (seaweed) are on the menu\, both of which bring luck and prosperity. \n\n\n\nParade with dragons and lions\n\n\n\nOn New Year’s Day\, an impressive parade with dragons and lions is held on the Zeedijk\, the main artery of the district. These mighty animals are supposed to drive away the evil spirits. Around this street\, fireworks are set off and food stalls are organised in the open air. Music undoubtedly plays an important role\, with drums\, gongs and cymbals. \n\n\n\nChinatown Amsterdam\n\n\n\nMost activities take place near the Nieuwmarkt. This district is also known as the Chinatown of Amsterdam. You will find a real Buddhist temple here: the Fo Guang Shan He Hua. At this Chinese temple\, the annual Chinese New Year celebration takes place.
