It is the city’s most centrally located ice rink and one of the largest in the Netherlands\, drawing visitors from Amsterdam and abroad each winter season. \n\n\n\nThe rink is suitable for all skill levels — beginners can find their footing on the ice\, while experienced skaters can pick up speed on the open surface. For the youngest visitors\, ice gliders are available for children with a shoe size smaller than EU 28. These attach under their own shoes and provide balance on the ice. \n\n\n\nThe setting makes the rink unique: on one side you look out over the iconic I Amsterdam sign location\, on the other you have a direct view of the Rijksmuseum’s neo-Gothic facade. It is one of the few places in the world where you can skate in front of a UNESCO World Heritage-listed cityscape. \n\n\n\nTickets & Prices\n\n\n\nTo skate at the Museumplein ice rink\, you need an entry ticket. Skate rental is included in the ticket price. You can also bring your own skates (see rules below). \n\n\n\nOnline booking is strongly recommended — popular sessions on Friday evenings\, weekends and during the school holidays sell out in advance. \n\n\n\nAmsterdam Ice rink ticketsPrice+ Ice skating ticket (including skate rental)€ 16.00Combination ticket with Moco Museum+ Ice skating ticket (including skate rental)+ Moco MuseumCombi deal € 35.95€ 26.32\n\n\n\n \n Ice rink\n \n \n \n \n Ice rink + Moco\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpenings hours ice rink\n\n\n\nThe Museumplein Ice Rink is open every day from 14 November 2026 to 5 February 2027. \n\n\n\nDayIce rink hoursMonday12 pm – 9 pmTuesday12 pm – 9 pmWednesday12 pm – 9 pmThursday12 pm – 9 pmFriday10 am – 10 pmSaturday10 am – 10 pmSunday10 am – 9 pm\n\n\n\n\n\nChristmas holidays (19 December 2026 – 3 January 2027): open every day from 10:00 am. \n\n\n\n\n\nWinter restaurant ‘Bistro Het Wak’\n\n\n\nRestaurant Ice Rink Amsterdam\n\n\n\nRight next to the ice rink\, Bistro Het Wak serves warm drinks\, snacks and full meals — perfect for non-skaters or for warming up after a session on the ice. He is accompanied by his white horse and a team of helpers (Pieten). Their annual arrival and parade in Amsterdam in mid-November and the festivities leading up to Sinterklaas (poem & gift giving) on 5 December are a real happening. \n\n\n\nProgramme Sinterklaas parade Amsterdam 2026\n\n\n\nOn Sunday 15 November\, Sinterklaas and his Pieten will arrive by boat. Sinterklaas will sail into Amsterdam on the boat according to the Water Route below. Again this year\, some 300\,000 – 350\,000 visitors are expected to come on the water or along the route by road to welcome Sinterklaas. \n\n\n\nRoute Sinterklaas parade Amsterdam 2026\n\n\n\nThe parade consists of two parts: a water route where Sint enters Amsterdam and takes a tour of the city and a land route where Sint and the Pieten walk through the city accompanied by a grand procession. Check out the routes and corresponding times below. \n\n\n\nPlease note that times are guidelines and may vary slightly. It may therefore happen that Saint is a little earlier or later. Please take this into account when visiting the entry! \n\n\n\nWater route\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe parade will go via the Omval\, Berlagebrug\, Nieuwe Amstelbrug\, Hogesluis\, Amstelsluizen\, Walter Suskindbrug and Scharrebiersluis towards Scheepvaartmuseum\, where the Goedheigman will be received by Mayor Halsema and the children’s mayor. \n\n\n\n\n10.00 | Start\n\n\n\n10.15 | Omval (first observation)\n\n\n\n10.40 | Ceintuurbaan\n\n\n\n10.50 | Sarphatistraat\n\n\n\n11.15 | Amstel / Nieuwe Herengracht \n\n\n\n11.30 | Arrival at the Scheepvaartmuseum\n\n\n\n\nLand route\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter a short stop\, St Nicholas will continue his tour\, followed by a procession of musicians\, floats and his Pieten. There are many traditions that belong to Sinterklaas. Children may put their shoe by the chimney and put an apple or a carrot in it for Sinterklaas’ horse. The next morning\, there is a present in the shoe. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSinterklaas songs\n\n\n\nChildren’s songs belong to the Sinterklaas celebration. There are many of them. On St. Nicholas Eve (5 December)\, families sing together in order to get St. Nicholas to come to their house to give presents. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial candy\n\n\n\nSweets are also part of the party.
