Start 2024 right and celebrate the start of the new year in the centre of Amsterdam. Visit one of the many parties in discotheques and bars or go ice skating into the new year on Museumplein. There is so much to do in the city! Below we have a selection of the best activities during New Year’s Eve in Amsterdam.

Currently, not all details are known about the New Year’s Eve 2023/2024. We expect to have all the information in November. During New Year’s Eve, hotels in Amsterdam are often fully booked. Book your hotel on time.

Firework shows Amsterdam

The municipality of Amsterdam hosts fireworks shows in Amsterdam at various locations that are free to attend. These fireworks shows replace the tradition of residents being allowed to light fireworks themselves. Setting off fireworks yourself during New Year’s Eve is prohibited in Amsterdam.

New Year’s Eve party Museumplein

On Museumplein this year, the municipality of Amsterdam is organising “Amsterdam counts down to 2023“, a party with a spectacular light and fireworks show. All of Amsterdam is welcome at Museumplein on 31 December from 23:00 for the pre-party where DJ Alamaison will warm up the crowd until the apotheosis at 23:50. That’s when the Netherlands’ biggest countdown starts with a specially designed clock 40 metres wide and 12 metres high. At 00:00, we welcome 2023 with the magnificent ‘Electric Fireworks’. A combination of ‘electric fireworks’ by light explosions and traditional eco-fireworks, programmed to music, where you, the audience, stand ‘in the middle’ for an optimal experience. The ice rink in Museumplein will be open until 01:00 on 1 January 2023. So you can skate into the new year.

The New Year’s Eve party at Museum Square is free to attend. However, full = full so arrive on time!

The Amsterdam Winter Paradise event is one of the best parties for starting 2023. This unique winter event is open on 31 December until 03:00 on 1 January. It promises to be Amsterdam’s biggest New Year’s Eve party. There is limited capacity so buy your tickets in time. Tickets (€26.50 per person) are available here.

Firework show A’DAM Tower – Cancelled due to strong winds

At the A’DAM Tower, a fireworks show will provide a unified start to 2023. From 22:00, people start warming up and at 00:15, the fireworks show ends. The best view of this show is from the quays around the IJ. And in Amsterdam Noord in all the surrounding residential areas from NDSM and Overhoeks to the Van der Pekbuurt and IJplein.

There are lots of different parties in nightclubs and bars in Amsterdam. For some parties, you need an entrance ticket. The Amsterdam Nightlife ticket is NOT valid on New Year’s Eve. Below we have a small selection of paid New Year’s Eve parties.
