Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is one of the largest airports in Europe. The centre of Amsterdam is approximately 25 kilometres from the airport. There are different possibilities to travel to the centre of Amsterdam from Amsterdam Airport.

If you want to go from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to the centre of Amsterdam, you can choose from several options. You can travel by Airport Express Bus, train or take a (rented) car or taxi to the centre. Below we give some more information about each transport option.

Airport Express Bus (bus 397)

The Airport Express Bus (bus 397) is an ideal bus to travel from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to the city centre. The bus passes many popular locations in the city. For this bus line, the GVB ticket is NOT valid. The Amsterdam Travel Ticket and Amsterdam Region Travel Ticket are valid for the Airport Express Bus.

Train to Amsterdam

The train takes you quickly from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to the city centre. The train is especially convenient if you have booked a hotel close to a train station. In only 15 minutes you can take the train from the airport to, for example, Amsterdam Central Station. A ticket for this train (2nd class ticket) is included in the Amsterdam Travel Ticket and the Amsterdam Region Travel Ticket.

Taxi / (rental) car

If you have a hotel in the centre of Amsterdam, it is not advisable to travel by (rented) car. The parking facilities are limited and the parking fees are very high. However, a taxi is a good option to travel quickly from the airport to your hotel. A taxi from Amsterdam Airport to Amsterdam city centre costs between € 25.00 and € 40.00 for a single ride.
